LAS VEGAS - Sony introduced the new Xperia Ion at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show.  It appears things are going according to plan and the Xperia Ion will be the first smartphone in the US to drop the Ericsson name and green globe logo.

The new Xperia Ion will be Sony's first LTE smartphone.  The Sony smartphone will have  a 4.6 inch HD display (1280 X 720 pixels)  and is  powered by 1.5 GHz dual-core processor running the Android Gingerbread 2.3 operating system.  The device will have a rear facing 12-megapixel camera with Sony Exmor R™ for mobile.  There were no further details given about the front facing camera except to say that it also has "HD recording capabilities."  The new Sony has 16 GB of internal flash storage.

“With Xperia ion, we’re bringing together several firsts that will take users beyond the smartphone,” said Paul Hamnett, President, Sony Ericsson North America. “Designed to deliver a seamless experience across the multiple screens we use to play, watch, listen, and share, Xperia ion is the gateway to entertainment when and – most importantly – where you want it.”  The Xperia Ion has HD sharing through DLNA, HDMI and BRAVIA Sync to stream content on other screens.
